- Welcome! As "Annie in Austin" I blog about gardening in Austin, TX with occasional looks back at our former gardens in Illinois. My husband Philo & I also make videos - some use garden images as background for my original songs, some capture Austin events & sometimes we share videos of birds in our garden. Come talk about gardens, movies, music, genealogy and Austin at the Transplantable Rose and listen to my original songs on YouTube. For an overview read Three Gardens, Twenty Years. Carol of May Dreams Gardens runs an online gathering of bloom reports on the 15th of every month. I'm working on a post for The Transplantable Rose, but here at Annie's Addendum, I like to keep complete-as-possible lists of what's in bloom. For May 15, 2013, here is the list, with my best guesses at the correct botanical names:

GBBD List for January 2013
This is the list for January Garden Bloggers Bloom Day, started by May Dreams Carol in 2007. I hope there will soon be a post for January 2013 GBBD on my main blog, The Transplantable Rose
Even after repeated freezes with a couple of overnight dips into the 20's F range, some plants are still blooming outside:
Camellia japonica 'Pius IX', rose-red camellia - a few flowers and a dozen buds
Camellia japonica 'Morning Glow' double white camellia - one open flower, some buds frozen off
Justicia brandegeana, Shrimp plant in Secret Garden, flowers still there but color is darker after being cold
Justicia spicigera/ Mexican Honeysuckle Still has flowers but leaves paler
Mahonia, species probably bealei, grape holly, budding in front container. It was cold out so I took this terrible photo by leaning over the rail of the veranda. If the flowers last until February GBBD I'll try again.
Origanum majorana, Sweet marjoram - not sure if they are flowers or developing seed pods but something is going on!
Osmanthus fragrans/Sweet olive four shrubs, three in the ground, one in container, still had flowers today
Oxalis crassipes 'Alba' blooming in Secret Garden in protected spot
Punica granatum 'Nana'/ dwarf pomegranate, plant in Secret Garden container has a couple of buds
